Folia is thrilled to announce Straylight Protocol, a fully on-chain, generative, NFT-based multiplayer game by Paul Seidler of terra0 – available for mint on Ethereum and Optimism on December 2nd, 19:00 UTC.
In Straylight, players mint NFT-turmite “agents” that can move in over ~60,000 patterns in shared worlds rendered and computed entirely on-chain.
The artist writes: ”Straylight Protocol is a non-conceptual work of art—all immutable interaction with the work is formalized by the program code. There is no mysticism, no hyperstition, no interpretation, no trusted third-party, no URLs, no additional servers—the code functions as a formalized operationalizable concept. [It’s] an expression of on-chain maximalism: meaning state, computation and graphics are stored, executed and generated by the contract.”
Straylight will be deployed to both Ethereum mainnet and Optimism, in the hopes of having not only a limited mainnet edition for collectors but also an optimal low-cost environment on L2 for playing with the protocol itself long into the future.
The Ethereum mainnet edition comprises 128 NFT-turmites each priced at 0.19ETH, with 16 reserved for the artist. The Optimism edition comprises 1024 turmites each priced at 0.05ETH. Moving or reprogramming your turmite only costs gas. Each turmite can perform an infinite amount of moves.
Note: because of the chain-specific nature of the tokens, bridging an NFT between mainnet and Optimism may block the contract from interacting with that NFT!
Folia developed a custom webapp for minting, moving, and visualizing Straylight.
